About The Hat Quiz
An independent fan project taking a closer look at the Hogwarts houses, the book canon and the wizarding world.
Why we made it
Most sorting quizzes ask the obvious question: pick a sword if you're brave, pick a book if you're studious. The result is decided before you start, and every answer is really about who you'd like to look like.
We wanted to try it the other way round. In the books, the Hat reads hidden motives and the way someone is actually wired — not what they announce in public. The Hat Quiz is built on everyday evening habits, gut reactions and small moral trade-offs instead. It's a way to see your real leanings, without the clichés.
Who's behind it
The site was designed and built by Nick Zakharov — a developer and long-time reader of the Harry Potter books. It runs as an open creative lab: clean web design, respect for the book canon, and a few interactive ideas worth trying.
What's on the site
The house quiz
Five evening habits and four life dilemmas. It scores all four houses at once and shows your full profile, not just a single label.
Canon journal
In-depth editorial pieces on the upcoming HBO series, the book storylines the films left out, and the psychology of the wizarding world.
Wizarding games
Small interactive experiments — drawing a spell, a reading with enchanted cards, brewing a potion.
Free and non-commercial
The Hat Quiz is entirely free. We don't charge for the quiz, we don't sell personal data to advertisers, and we don't sell merchandise. It's a fan project, made out of love for the books and films.
